We Love Pets, but They Don't Always Love Us Back

For many of us, there is nothing better than having a pet that we can love. When it seems that no one else is around or cares to listen to us, we can always count on our pets to be there to listen. One of the best ways to get a pet is through a rescue foundation; however, when getting a pet from a rescue foundation, there can often be issues. The most prevalent issue is that these are sometimes aggressive animals. Fortunately, by being patient and taking time to truly understand the pet, you can win over this animal’s love.

Start Slowly

For lots of aggressive animals, no one really knows what caused their aggression. Therefore, it is important to start slowly to earn the animal’s trust and love. First, it is important to never yell at the pet. By yelling, it is possible that you can trigger a past memory that will cause unwanted anxiety for the animal. Also, you should be sure to never strike the pet. When animals are aggressive, this is often caused by some type of mistreatment in the animal’s previous home.

Sometimes, according to Abels & Annes, P.C., “some of these animals may not be suitable as pets and can pose safety threats to children and local communities.” So, it happens that no matter how slow you start or how much time you spend with the pet, they just might not be the right fit as a pet.

Spend Time

Even though the animal may be aggressive, it is important that you spend lots of time with it. There is no way to reduce the amount of aggression if you are not spending time with the animal. Spending time can mean anything from being in the same room with the animal to taking it for a walk. As you spend more time with the animal, it will begin to trust you more. Also, you will begin to trust the animal more. If you do not trust the animal, the animal will sense this uneasiness and will not respond as well to you.

Get Training

There are many experts who have worked with aggressive animals and know how to respond to these animals. While there may not be a possibility to work directly with someone, there is a lot of research on the Internet to help you understand the appropriate approach for aggressive animals. Once you know more about these types of animals, you will have a better chance at succeeding to eliminate the aggression within your own animal.

Pets are great, but there are sometimes when we have to work a little harder to earn their love. If we are willing to be patient and understand that it will take time, we will have a pet that will love us and one that we will love in return.
